U.S. Manufacturing Capacity Utilization: Manufacturing capacity utilization (MCU) reached 77.30% in January 2022, up 0.18% month on month (m/m). On a year on year (y/y) comparison, the MCU was a modest +2.32%.
ISM Non-Manufacturing Index: The Institute for Supply Management’s non-manufacturing index decreased by 2.4 points month on month (-3.9% m/m) to 59.9 in January 2022.
ISM Manufacturing Index: The Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index moved down 1.2 points month on month (m/m) to 57.6 for January 2022; this value is stronger than the forecast of 50.  The new orders sub-index scored a 57.9. Overall, the ISM manufacturing index is strong, while the global economy is beginning to strengthen again following shutdowns throughout Covid-19.

U.S. Manufacturing Capacity Utilization: Manufacturing capacity utilization (MCU) reached 76.97% in December 2021, down 0.32% month on month (m/m). On a year on year (y/y) comparison, the MCU was a modest +4.46%.
ISM Non-Manufacturing Index: The Institute for Supply Management’s non-manufacturing index decreased by 7.1 points month on month (-10.3% m/m) to 62.0 in December 2021.
ISM Manufacturing Index: The Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index moved down 2.4 points month on month (m/m) to 58.7 for December 2021; this value is stronger than the forecast of 50.  The new orders sub-index scored a 60.4. Overall, the ISM manufacturing index is strong, while the global economy is beginning to strengthen again following shutdowns throughout Covid-19.
