Market Update
November 2017
Wire Rod licenses for the month of November through the 14th, totaled 26,169 tons, 82.7% lower than the year to date, (YTD) average of 151,384 tons. On a YTD basis licensed import volume was 1,665,227 tons, 4.9% less than the 1,751,159 tons YTD 2016.
SBQ final imports to the U.S. were up 18.8% year to date (YTD), year on year (y/y), totaling 393,263 tons for the nine months ending September 2017. September SBQ imports came in at 37,135 tons, 15.0% lower than the 43,695ton YTD average volume.
Beam final imports to the U.S. were up 3.6% year to date (YTD), year on year (y/y), totaling 445,284 tons for the nine months ending September 2017. For the month of September, Beam imports totaled 41,847 tons down 15.5% from the YTD average of 49,539.
Rebar final imports to the US were down 19.7% year to date (YTD), year on year (y/y), totaling 1,373,282 tons for the nine months ending September 2017. September rebar imports were 28,389 tons, 23.9% lower than the YTD average of 152,587 tons.
The total tonnage for the week ending November 7th was 1,715 million tons, (Mt) at a capacity utilization rate of 73.6%. On a four moving average, (4WMA) basis, tonnage output was also 1,732 Mt, at a capacity utilization rate of 74.3%.

Worldsteel Association (WSA) reports that global crude steel production totaled 141.43 million tonnes (Mt) at a capacity utilization rate, (CUR) of 73.5% in September.
