U.S. Steel Rebar Final Imports: Final rebar imports to the U.S. came in at 78,432 tons for the month of January 2022, up 19% m/m. Mexico was the largest exporter of rebar with 33,040 tons this month (42%).
U.S. Steel Merchant Final Imports: Final merchant imports to the U.S. came in at 43,495 tons in January 2022, increasing 4.6% month over month (m/m). Mexico and Canada, combined, account for 87.5% of the total this month.
U.S. Fabricated Beam Final Imports: Final fabricated beam imports to the U.S. came in at 44,935 tons in January 2022, decreasing 16.7% month over month (m/m). Mexico was the largest exporter of fabricated beams with 14,603 tons this month (32%).
U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 21,746 tons for January 2022, down 5% since last month. Luxembourg was the largest exporter of beams with 8,120 tons this month (37%).
U.S. Capacity Utilization was 76.3% in December, up 0.7% month on month (m/m). On a year on year (y/y) comparison, the capacity utilization was a modest +3.0%.
­­U.S. Steel Capacity Utilization: The total tonnage for the week ending February 26th was 1.755 million net tons, at a capacity utilization rate of 79.7%. The year-to-date tonnage output is 16.092 million net tons, at an average capacity utilization rate of 81.2%. In 2021, the same output total was 15.481 million net tons, at an average capacity utilization of 76.1%.
