U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 57,476 tons for June 2022, up 149% since last month. South Korea was the largest exporter of beams with 41,034 tons this month (71%). The Los Angeles, CA port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 24,666 tons.
U.S. Fabricated Beam Final Imports: Final fabricated beam imports to the U.S. came in at 59,768 tons in June 2022, decreasing 8% month over month (m/m). Mexico was the largest exporter of fabricated beams with 22,007 tons this month (37%). The Laredo, TX port was the largest receiver of fabricated beams this month, receiving 12,771 tons.
U.S. Steel Capacity Utilization: The total tonnage for the week ending July 30th was 1.727 million net tons, at a capacity utilization rate of 78.4%. The year-to-date tonnage output is 54.803 million net tons, at an average capacity utilization rate of 80.7%. In 2021, the same output total was 55.223 million net tons, at an average capacity utilization of 79.1%.

July 2022

U.S. Steel Rebar Final Imports: Final rebar imports to the U.S. came in at 225,251 tons for the month of May 2022, up 120% m/m. Turkey was the largest exporter of rebar with 104,662 tons this month (47%). The Houston-Galveston, TX port was the largest receiver of rebar this month, receiving 103,782 tons.
U.S. Steel Merchant Final Imports: Final merchant imports to the U.S. came in at 46,509 tons in May 2022, increasing 4.9% month over month (m/m). Canada was the largest exporter to the U.S. with 28,421 tons; Mexican imports came in at 15,585 tons. Detroit, MI was the largest receiver of merchants this month, receiving 18,272 tons of the total.
U.S. Capacity Utilization was 79.9% in March, up 0.5% month on month (m/m). On a year on year (y/y) comparison, the capacity utilization was a modest +5.0%.
