U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 57,476 tons for June 2022, up 149% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – June 2022.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through June 2022. South Korea was the largest exporter of beams with 41,034 tons this month (71%). Mexico was the second-largest exporter with 6,659 tons. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was a close third with 4,214 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 90% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Los Angeles, CA port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 24,666 tons. Houston-Galveston, TX was the second-largest receiver coming in at 13,214 tons. Columbia-Snake, OR was the third-largest receiver coming in at 3,952 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 73% of all U.S. beam imports.
