U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

Beam final imports came in at 24,268 tons for October 2019, up 31.2% m/m. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Angles H Sections Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total final beam imports from January 2019 – October 2019. When comparing year to date figures, it shows that beam imports peaked in May 0119 with 57,934 tons of imports reported.

Figure 2 also charts the largest exporting countries to the US through October 2019. South Korea was the largest exporter of beams with 9,201 tons in October 2019, Mexico was the second largest exporter with 6,596. Luxembourg was the third largest beams exporter to the US with 5,419, up significantly from last month’s 1,540 ton. Together these three exporters accounted for 87% of the total.

Los Angeles, CA port was the largest receiver of U.S. beams in October 2019, receiving 9,446 tons of the total 24,268. Laredo, TX port was the second largest receiver coming in at 4,159 tons. Savannah, GA port was the third largest receiver coming in at 3,120 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 69% of all U.S. beam imports
