U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

Beam final imports came in at 33,412 tons for June 2019, down 43% Mom and up significantly YoY (120%. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Angles H Sections Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

beamimports-fig1Figure 1 further breaks down total final beam imports from January 2018 – June 2019. When comparing year to date figures from 2018 and 2019.

Figure 1 also charts the largest exporting countries through January for both 2019 and 2018.  Luxembourg was the largest exporter of beams with 13,757 tons in June 2019, United Arab Emirates was the second largest exporter with 10,583, up significantly from last month’s 135 tons. Taiwan was the third largest beams exporter to the US with 4,982. Together these three exporters accounted for 88% of the total.

Laredo, TX port was the largest receiver of U.S. beams in June 2019, receiving 11,382 tons of the total 33,412. Boston, MA port was the second largest receiver coming in at 3,471 tons. San Francisco, CA port was the third largest receiver coming in at 2,645 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 52% of all U.S. beam imports
