U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 18,692 tons for May 2023, down 50% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2022 – May 2023.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through May 2023. South Korea was the largest exporter of beams with 8,061 tons this month (43%). Luxembourg was the second-largest exporter with 3,566 tons. Canada was third with 3,049 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 79% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Houston-Galveston, TX port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 5,851 tons. San Francisco, CA was the second-largest receiver coming in at 2,897 tons. Pembina, ND was the third-largest receiver coming in at 2,138 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 58% of all U.S. beam imports.
