U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 22,917 tons for December 2021, down 41% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – December 2021. When looking at the current year, it shows that beam imports reached their peak in July at 39,122 tons.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through December 2021. South Korea was the largest exporter of beams with 11,186 tons this month (49%). The UAE was the second-largest exporter with 4,092 tons. Luxembourg was a close third with 3,818 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 83% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Los Angeles, CA port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 10,884 tons. Boston, MA was the second-largest receiver coming in at 4,092 tons. San Diego, CA was the third-largest receiver coming in at 2,537 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 76% of all U.S. beam imports.
