U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 14,533 tons for October 2021, down 38% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – October 2021. When looking at the current year, it shows that beam imports reached their peak in July at 39,122 tons.

Figure 2 also charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through October 2021. Mexico was the largest exporter of beams with 6,673 tons this month (46%). Luxembourg was the second-largest exporter with 5,172 tons. Canada was the third-largest beams exporter to the U.S. with 2,556 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 99% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Houston-Galveston, TX port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 3,469 tons. Mobile, AL was the second-largest receiver coming in at 3,184 tons. Pembina, ND was the third-largest receiver coming in at 2,306 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 62% of all U.S. beam imports.
