U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 27,581 tons for June 2021, up 51% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – June 2021. When looking at the current year, it shows that beam imports reached their peak in January with 27,997 tons of imports reported, just slightly above this month’s number.

Figure 2 also charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through June 2021. South Korea was the largest exporter of beams with 20,118 tons this month (73%). Mexico was the second-largest exporter with 3,735 tons. Canada was the third-largest beams exporter to the U.S. with 1,946 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 94% of the total. (Luxembourg’s beam exports are also worth noting, increasing 136% m/m to reach 1,726 tons.)

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Los Angeles, CA port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 9,947 tons. Columbia-Snake, OR was the second-largest receiver coming in at 6,244 tons. Laredo, TX was the third-largest receiver coming in at 2,565 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 68% of all U.S. beam imports.
