U.S. Rebar Final Imports

U.S. Steel Rebar Final Imports: Final rebar imports to the U.S. came in at 104,626 tons for the month of June 2021, up 12% m/m. Rebar imports include: concrete reinforcing bars and rods of iron or non-alloy steel, irregularly wound coils hot-rolled, concrete reinforcing bars and rods of other alloy steel, not further worked than hot-rolled, hot-drawn or extruded, and other bars and rods of iron or non-alloy steel, hot-worked, concrete reinforcing bars and rods.

Figure 1 further breaks down total rebar imports through June. When looking at the current year, we see that rebar imports reached their peak in March at 141,474 tons.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. in rank order through June. Mexico was the largest exporter of rebar with 30,703 tons this month (29%). Spain was the second-largest exporter with 22,675 tons. Italy was the third-largest rebar exporter to the U.S. with 16,307 tons (their highest export tonnage since July 2019). Together, these three exporters accounted for 67% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. in rank order. The Houston-Galveston, TX port was the largest receiver of rebar this month, receiving 35,830 tons. Laredo, TX was the second-largest receiver coming in at 15,719 tons. Miami, FL was the third-largest receiving port with 12,723 tons. Together, these three ports collected 61% of total rebar imports in June.
