US Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Beam final imports to the U.S. came in at 11,618 tons for November 2020, down 58% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Angles H Sections Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – November 2020. When looking at the current year, it shows that beam imports peaked in February 2020 with 40,308 tons of imports reported.

Figure 2 also charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through November 2020. The United Arab Emirates was the largest exporter of beams with 4,292 tons in November (37%); South Korea was the second-largest exporter with 2,845 tons. Mexico was the third-largest beams exporter to the U.S. with 2,026 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 79% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Philadelphia, PA port was the largest receiver of beams in November, receiving 4,575 tons of the total 11,618. Mobile, AL was the second-largest receiver coming in at 1,665 tons. Pembina, ND was the third-largest receiver coming in at 1,573 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 67% of all U.S. beam imports.
