Architectural Billings Index: August ABI national overall score of 40.0 remained flat from July’s 40.0, which is under the expansionary zone, (>50). U.S. architecture firms specializing in commercial and industrial facilities likewise reported a decrease in design activity in August, coming on the heels of a significant upturn in July. Firms concentrating in the multifamily, either residential or institutional sector, reported modest gains in August.
Construction Put-in-Place, (CPIP): Total U.S. construction spending continued to perform well in August 2020, especially in the Federal sector. Census Bureau non-seasonally adjusted (NSA), constant dollar CPIP data showed that August’s twelve month total, (12MT) construction expenditures grew by 5.8% year on year (y/y), to $379.0 billion (B).

September 2020

Construction Put-in-Place, (CPIP): Total U.S. construction spending continued to perform well in July 2020, especially in the state and local sector. Census Bureau non-seasonally adjusted (NSA), constant dollar CPIP data showed that July’s twelve month total, (12MT) construction expenditures grew by 4.4% year on year (y/y), to $365.1 billion (B).

Census Bureau non-seasonally adjusted (NSA), constant dollar CPIP data showed that June’s twelve month total, (12MT) construction expenditures grew by 3.9% year on year (y/y), to $351.1 billion (B).

July 2020

Architectural Billings Index: June ABI national overall score of 40.0 was up 8.0 points from May’s 32.0, which is under the expansionary zone, (>50). U.S. architecture firms specializing in commercial and industrial facilities likewise reported an increase design activity in June, coming on the heels of a significant upturn in May. Firms concentrating in the multifamily either residential or institutional sector reported gains in June.
