July 2021

Architectural Billings Index: June 2021’s national Architectural Billings Index of 57.1 was down 1.4 points from May’s 58.5, which is within the expansionary zone, (>50). U.S. architecture firms specializing in multifamily residential and commercial / industrial facilities all reported an increase in design activity in June.
­­­Construction Put in Place, (CPIP): Total U.S. construction spending continued to perform well in May 2021, especially in the private sector. Census Bureau non-seasonally adjusted (NSA), constant dollar CPIP data showed that May’s three month total (3MT) construction expenditures grew by 10.2% year on year (y/y) to $376.9 billion. On a 12MT basis, private expenditures advanced 10.0% y/y, state & local expenditures grew by 3.0% y/y, and federal spend increased by 1.6% y/y.

June 2021

Architectural Billings Index: May 2021’s national Architectural Billings Index of 58.5 was up 0.6 points from April’s 57.9, which is within the expansionary zone, (>50). U.S. architecture firms specializing in multifamily residential, commercial / industrial, and institutional facilities all reported an increase in design activity in May.
­­­Construction Put-in-Place, (CPIP): Total U.S. construction spending continued to perform well in April 2021, especially in the private sector. Census Bureau non-seasonally adjusted (NSA), constant dollar CPIP data showed that April’s three month total (3MT) construction expenditures grew by 6.7% year on year (y/y) to $350.8 billion.

May 2021

Architectural Billings Index: April 2021’s national Architectural Billings Index of 57.9 was up 2.3 points from March’s 55.6, which is within the expansionary zone, (>50). U.S. architecture firms specializing in multifamily residential, commercial / industrial, and institutional facilities all reported an increase in design activity in April.
­­­Construction Put-in-Place (CPIP): Total U.S. construction spending continued to perform well in March 2021, especially in the private sector. Census Bureau non-seasonally adjusted (NSA), constant dollar CPIP data showed that March’s three month total (3MT) construction expenditures grew by 4.1% year on year (y/y) to $331.6 billion.
