U.S. Steel Merchant Final Imports

Merchant final imports to the U.S. came in at 34,165 tons in October 2019, up 40.2%% month over month (m/m).

Figure 1 further breaks down total final beam imports from January 2019 – October 2019. When comparing year to date figures, it shows that beam imports peaked in October 2019 with 34,165 tons of imports reported.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries in rank order through October 2019.  Mexico and Canada combined account for 87% of the total in October 2019. Mexico was the largest exporter with 17,194 tons. Canadian imports came in at 12,548 in October 2019.

Laredo, TX port was the largest receiver of U.S. merchants in July 2019, receiving 9,777 tons of the total 34,165. Detroit, MI port was the second largest receiver coming in at 6,904 tons and the El Paso, TX port was the third largest receiver coming in at 4,886 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 63% of all U.S. merchant imports
